Boingo Wireless Inc. (WIFI US): Booming use of mobile devices and data demand is pushing users to the company’s wireless networks, Barron’s reported in its “The Trader” column. Boingo has a 40 percent share of the North American airport Wi-Fi network market, Barron’s said.

Devon Energy Corp. (DVN US): The independent oil and natural gas producer’s increased spending boosted its output, and asset sales reduced debt, Barron’s reported in its “The Trader” column. The company may boost its dividend, currently at 0.9 percent, RBC Capital Markets’ Scott Hanold told Barron’s.

Ebix Inc. (EBIX US): The insurance software provider faces fewer acquisition opportunities and rising international tax rates, Barron’s reported, without naming the people who provided the information. Ebix’s international tax rate may rise to between 16 percent and 20 percent by 2013 as it centralizes software development in Singapore from India, Barron’s said, citing a July 15 company statement.

FriendFinder Networks Inc. (FFN US): The owner of Penthouse magazine that is affiliated with about 250,000 dating and pornographic websites, may not benefit from the boom in social- networking companies, Barron’s reported in its “The Trader” column. FriendFinder has about 1 million subscribers who pay an average of $20 a month and cancel their subscriptions after an average of 4.4 months, Barron’s said.

Hanesbrands Inc. (HBI US): The underwear and clothing maker is raising prices and expanding sales in emerging markets, Barron’s reported, citing Stifel Nicolaus analyst James Duffy. Hanesbrands doubled prices this year, and its first-quarter non- U.S. revenue was up 24 percent, Barron’s said.

McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants Inc. (MSSR US): Tilman J. Fertitta, chief executive officer of Landry’s Restaurants Inc. (LNY US), said he rescinded his unsolicited offer to acquire the restaurant chain for $9.25 a share, opting instead to negotiate an acquisition and conduct due diligence.

News Corp. (NWSA US): Former News of the World Editor Rebekah Brooks was arrested by police investigating phone hacking at the media company’s shuttered Sunday tabloid. She is the most senior former News Corp. employee detained in the probe. The arrest came two days after she stepped down as chief executive officer of News International, News Corp.’s U.K. publishing unit whose journalists have been accused of hacking hundreds of voice mails, including those of murder and terrorism victims, and bribing police for confidential information.

SkyWest Inc. (SKYW US): The operator of commuter flights for larger airlines cut its forecasts for third- and fourth- quarter profit. The company also said it broke even in the second quarter. Analysts were estimating earnings of 25 cents a share, according to a Bloomberg survey.
