The nation’s largest operator of dry-bulk ships by market value has reached agreement with shipowners covering 18 vessels, General Manager Zhang Liang told reporters in Hong Kong. He didn’t elaborate. The Chinese shipping line has been in dispute with shipowners over unpaid charters. The shares dropped 1 percent to HK$4.14.

China Airlines Ltd. (2610) (2610 TT)
Taiwan’s biggest carrier reported first-half net loss of NT$661 million ($22.8 million), compared with a profit of NT$6.27 billion a year earlier, the company said in a statement to the Taiwan stock exchange. The shares added 0.3 percent to NT$15.80.

Taiwan’s second-biggest carrier reported first-half net income of NT$333 million compared with a profit of NT$5.22 billion a year earlier, the company said in a statement to the Taiwan stock exchange. Eva Airways declined 2.1 percent to NT$21.55.

Metcash Ltd. (MTS)
Australia’s largest grocery wholesaler hired Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Westpac Banking Corp. to help it arrange A$700 million ($734 million) of loans, said a person familiar with the matter. The banks have started marketing the debt to other lenders, the person said, asking not to be named as the details are private. Metcash dropped 1.7 percent to A$4.04.

Nan Ya reported first-half net income of NT$20 billion compared with NT$20.5 billion a year earlier, the company said in a statement to the Taiwan stock exchange. The shares rose 1.1 percent to NT$67.50.

The world’s second-biggest maker of stainless steel will cut domestic prices by 100,000 won a metric ton in September to reflect lower prices of nickel, a key raw material, according to a statement. The stock fell 0.4 percent to 385,500 won.
