At 11.02 a.m., the 30-share BSE index Sensex was up 135.49 points or 0.8 per cent at 16,975.12 and the 50-share NSE index Nifty was up 38.15 points or 0.75 per cent at 5,111.10.
Volume toppers during the session were SBI, Tata Steel, Infosys, Tata Motors and RIL. Major Sensex gainers were RIL, ICICI Bank, SBI, HDFC Bank, Infosys, L&T and Bharti Airtel. DLF, Maruti Suzuki and HDFC were the major losers.
Among the sectoral indices, teck was up 1.09 per cent, IT 1.00 per cent, consumer durables 0.96 er cent and capital goods 0.87 per cent. Only realty was down 1.76 per cent. Of the total 2,409 stocks traded, 1,309 advanced, 1,016 declined and 84 remained unchanged.
During the opening session, the Sensex recovered by 187.37 points or 1.11 per cent to 17,027. It had lost 219.77 points in the previous session on Friday.
Similarly, the broad-based National Stock Exchange Nifty index gained 55.55 points or 1.1 per cent to 5,128.50 points.
