The Tokyo market posted solid gains of its own on Monday. In addition to a boost from the global rally, Japan shares were aided by word that the country's gross domestic product declined a less-than-expected 1.3 percent for the June quarter.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 average gained 122.69 points or 1.37 percent to close at 9,086.41. The TOPIX index of all First Section trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 8.93 points or 1.16 percent to 777.12.
