The global forecast for the Asian markets remains broadly positive as debt concerns in Europe continue to abate - and the oversold Asian bourses are likely to see bargain hunting. The European and U.S .markets finished sharply higher on Thursday, and the Asian markets are expected to open in similar fashion.
The SET finished sharply higher on Thursday following gains from the financial shares and the energy producers.
For the day, the index jumped 13.25 points or 1.30 percent to finish at the daily high of 1.036.21 after dipping as low as 1,020.15. Volume was 2.881 billion shares worth 21.596 billion baht. There were 348 gainers and 121 decliners, with 136 stocks finishing unchanged.
Among the gainers, energy giant PTT was up 1.28 percent, while PTT Chemical added 2.04 percent, coal miner Banpu collected 2.95 percent, Siam Concrete climbed 0.32 percent, Bangkok Bank jumped 3.05 percent and Kasikornbank surged 2.11 percent.
