The Taiex Index rose 7.34 points, or 0.1 percent, to 8,801.58.
Formosa Plastics stocks: Formosa Plastics Corp. (1301) (1301 TT) led stocks in the company group lower in Taipei trading after a fire broke out at the group’s Mailiao complex yesterday.
Formosa Plastics lost 2.3 percent to NT$108.50. Nan Ya Plastics Corp. (1303) (1303 TT) fell 2 percent to NT$80.50., while Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp. (1326) (1326 TT) lost 1.4 percent to NT$105 and Formosa Petrochemical Corp. (6505) (6505 TT) fell 0.9 percent to NT$108. The fire was extinguished last night after burning for about 1 1/2 hours, Hsu Ching-kui, a fire department captain, said today.
Catcher Technology Co. (2474 TT) extended gains, surging 6.9 percent to NT$265.50 after climbing 6.9 percent yesterday. The increases came after the casing maker said second-quarter net income rose to NT$2.4 billion ($83.4 million), from NT$839.6 million in the same period a year earlier, according to Bloomberg data. HSBC Holdings Plc, Credit Suisse Group AG and UBS AG raised their share-price estimates for the company yesterday.
Hiwin Technologies Corp. (2049) (2049 TT) jumped 4.8 percent to NT$392.50, set for a record, before the ball-bearing maker goes ex-dividend tomorrow.
Kinsus Interconnect Technology Corp. (3189) (3189 TT) advanced 4.9 percent to NT$129.50, set for the highest close since June 9. The maker of chips for smartphones reported profit in the second quarter was NT$734 million, from NT$669 million a year earlier, according to Bloomberg data.
